Thigpen Tree Farm: One of the Best-Managed Loblolly Pine Stands I've Seen
Paul Trianosky is AFF’s Director of Southern Forest Conservation.
A few weekends ago, I attended a field day at the Thigpen family Tree Farm in Montrose, Mississippi.
The family patriarch, Chester Thigpen, was recognized as the National Outstanding Tree Farmer of the Year in 1996.
Now, the 3rd and 4th generations of the Thigpen family continue to carry the tradition of sustainable forest management, and use the property regularly as a demonstration and educational site within their community.
The Thigpen's Tree Farm is one of the most well-managed and well-kept loblolly pine stands I’ve seen.
Mr. Thigpen was truly a visionary when he began planting and managing this forest more than a half century ago. His family is clearly proud of that tradition.
