Last Call to Enroll your Land in Conservation Reserve Program
This year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is
celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Conservation Reserve Program
(CRP).
CRP is one of the longest-running, most successful conservation programs in our nation’s history. The program helps landowners protect soil quality by planting trees and grasses on marginal cropland and in riparian buffers.
CRP is now accepting general applications for those who want to enroll new land in the program. Hurry, the deadline is April 15th, 2011.
If you have crop or pasture land that you would like to enroll to protect stream and soil quality, visit the Farm Service Agency’s website to learn more and to sign up. You can also use this map to locate and contact your local FSA office for more information.
Over the years, CRP has helped tens of thousands of farmers and Tree Farmers to reforest streamsides, thus improving water quality and fish habitat downstream. CRP has even restored longleaf pine ecosystems and bottomland hardwoods. In fact, the program has helped current participants plant nearly three million new acres of trees. Enroll by this Friday and be a part of this successful, nationwide program.
