Obama: Forest Conservation is Good for the Economy

April 16, 2010 at 6:29 PM by Jennifer Jones

Noting that forest conservation is good for the economy, the President said that it is important to help people protect their land for future generations. At AFF, we couldn't agree more! During the morning session on "conserving working lands for the benefit of all Americans," panelists noted that we need more than traditional farming income. Carbon storage for example can help preserve America's forests and provide income to family forest owners, while reducing climate change. Discussion also focused on the need to fix the estate tax to preserve family working lands. Both these issues -- carbon credits and fixing the estate tax are top AFF's policy initiatives. We'll keep you posted on more from the conference throughout the day.
