Reflecting on 2025 and Looking Ahead
Happy New Year from the Family Forest Carbon Program team! It’s been a tumultuous year, to say the least, so I hope you’ve all been able to find some peace, prosperity and perspective enjoying your farms, fields, and forests with your families. As I reflect on our community, it’s clear we have so much to be grateful for.
To begin with, we now have over 180,000 acres owned by more than 1,300 landowners enrolled in our program across 20 states. One of my favorite things is our enrollment map –the many dedicated, enrolled landowner “dots” speckled across this 20-state region. It’s incredibly impressive what the collective action of a few all working together can produce.
What does our impact look like? Well, for starters, in 2025 we issued our first ever verified carbon credits to buyers who contracted with us back in 2021. This truly represents quantifiable climate mitigation, as our FFCP credits represent some of the highest quality carbon credits on the market, as determined by a rigorously developed global, third-party label. And while that’s meaningful for many, it’s just the tip of the iceberg of our impact. As a community, we represent some of the most impressively stewarded land, providing the agricultural and forestry resources we all use every single day. We’re also protecting clean air and water, and enhancing critical wildlife habitat across a connected landscape that’s essential for wildlife resilience and migration. All while maintaining the rural identities of the communities we love so dearly. For individual families, the $45 million in FFCP-committed financial support means landowners have more resources to do right by their land, to support both people and planet.
I’m so proud of the work this community has accomplished and is committed to accomplishing in the future. I speak for the entire team when I say our greatest source of inspiration is you. This work is challenging, and at the end of a long year, we are worn out. But nothing lifts our spirits more than the latest landowner story (yes, we do enjoy every little detail!) accompanied by pictures of families enjoying these natural places together. In our growing virtual world, this is our best way to stay connected to this important work. If you haven't joined the program, we would be glad to support you if you choose to take the next step with us.
