Supporting Landowners In: South Carolina

Educational Background: Bachelor of Science in Forestry at the University of Kentucky

We’re excited to highlight Sarah Cawood, a dedicated forester with the Family Forest Carbon Program (FFCP) who brings enthusiasm, experience, and a strong commitment to conservation to her work. Based in South Carolina, Sarah works closely with landowners to support sustainable forestry practices across the region.

Sarah earned her Bachelor of Science in Forestry from the University of Kentucky. Her academic and field experiences have given her a well-rounded understanding of forestry, blending both science and the boots-on-the-ground work needed to make a difference.

Sarah's interest in forestry took root during childhood trips to Pine Mountain in Kentucky, a place that left a lasting impression. "I always felt like it was special and wanted to pursue it," she recalls. That early sense of connection to the land helped inspire her career in conservation.

Before joining the FFCP team, Sarah worked as a research assistant, forestry technician, and field worker. These roles gave her a firsthand look at the balance between academic forestry research and the realities of fieldwork, further fueling her passion for conservation and her desire to take on a more impactful role.

As an FFCP forester, Sarah especially enjoys site visits and connecting with landowners. "Getting to do site visits and speak about our program to landowners is always exciting," she shares. These moments allow her to share her knowledge, listen to landowners' goals, and provide practical guidance to support healthier, more resilient forests.

Sarah's work is grounded in a genuine love for the land and a desire to help others care for it. Her approach blends technical knowledge with a deep respect for the people and places she serves, making her an invaluable part of the FFCP team.
