Forester Spotlight: Adam Pease
Supporting Landowners In: Maine
Educational Background: Bachelor’s in Forestry from the University of Maine (December 2025); Red Card for wildland firefighting; Wilderness First Responder certification; Part 107 UAS Remote Pilot certification
After serving in the Air Force, Adam Pease knew he wanted to pursue a degree that felt hands-on, analytical, and meaningful. Forestry stood out. Certain aspects of the field—like inspecting forests, collecting data, and determining priorities for action—reminded him of inspecting aircraft for visual damage and deciding which repairs came first during his military service. Once he began his studies at the University of Maine, his interest only grew as he explored the many pathways within forestry.
Adam’s field experience is extensive and varied. He previously worked as an intern with the U.S. Forest Service in Ukiah, Oregon, where he conducted inspection cruises, timber stand improvement work, and supported fire-related activities. He later served as a firefighter with the Maine Forest Service through their helitack module internship program. Most recently, he worked with the New England Forestry Foundation as a technician, helping apply chemical treatments on properties affected by beech bark disease prior to planned harvests, along with supporting other property goals such as crop tree release and invasive species mapping. These experiences have given him a practical understanding of forest health, management strategies, and the importance of careful decision-making in the field.
As an outreach forester with the Family Forest Carbon Program, Adam is continuing to learn the ropes while gaining valuable experience. He especially enjoys conducting rapid assessments and reviewing forest management plans and easements. Seeing the unique characteristics of each landscape—and the different prescriptions or limitations outlined in management plans—has been a standout part of his work so far.
Outside of forestry, Adam enjoys learning guitar with a group that meets regularly, adding to his collection of patches, and staying involved with the Maine Forest Service’s call-when-needed firefighter program. Through both his technical training and hands-on fieldwork, Adam brings a thoughtful, detail-oriented approach to supporting landowners and stewarding Maine’s forests.
